Welcome

At John Barnett School we believe our greatest gift is the diversity of our students and community. We celebrate our students by creating a safe and welcoming environment where every child can flourish and feel proud of themselves.  All students are encouraged to "be the best they can be".  Together we can build outstanding learning opportunities for all students, advance actions towards anti-racism and reconciliation and promote a comprehensive approach to student and staff well-being and mental health.

Principal's Message

Welcome to our John Barnett Family!

Students, parents, guardians, and community members: I am so honored to be your new principal and look forward to an exciting year ahead.

John Barnett School is a diverse and caring community,  with students from 28 countries, speaking 19 different languages. We are truly blessed with  the opportunities we are given to learn and grow from one another and all that makes each of our families a vital piece of our community. I look forward to working together with our students, families and community members, to ensure growth for all, by celebrating our individual gifts and talents, as well as our collaborative successes. This is truly a community built on caring, acceptance and respect for all the qualities that makes each of us unique .

The amazing team at John Barnett believes every child is our collective responsibility; they provide all students with meaningful opportunities to grow into kind and contributing members of society. Students learn in supportive class communities where they are challenged to do and be their best. In addition to Literacy and Numeracy, our teaching community incorporates key skills such as inquiry, collaboration, and problem solving, not only in content specific endeavors but in real life applications. Student curiosity is key!

We are committed to not only doing everything we can to meet each child’s endless potential academically but also to provide a safe, welcoming space where everyone belongs. Our staff, students and families are respected, valued and appreciated.  In addition to this, we are fortunate to be able to enhance  student success through work with community partnerships such as E4C, EISA and the Family Centre. The success of our students is my top priority and I know this can be accomplished when we ALL work together.

With this in mind, I want to remind families that it is of utmost importance that we are connected and that you receive information in a timely fashion.  Accessing SchoolZone is an essential part of this and it is our main source of communication. Thank you in advance for logging on!  If you do not have a current username and password for SchoolZone, please contact the office and we will provide one for you.

I look forward to meeting each of you and your children and learning more about the unique strengths and goals of our school community. Your voice is important as we work together to support the different aspects of your child’s growth and achievement. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, ideas or concerns.  You are your child’s advocate and your input matters!  Let's work together to make this one of the best school years yet!
